Started last year under the name NYC Japan Street Fair, the events are run by Azix, a marketing and communications firm that focuses on Japanese companies. The street fairs are designed to introduce Japanese culture to New Yorkers, but they also endorse Japanese restaurants and merchandise vendors that don’t have the budget for traditional advertising. With the potential for 80 thousand visitors to the festival, the opportunity of exposure for both the consumer and the vendor is high.
“We don’t have a JapanTown like Chinatown where restaurants are all together in one place and you can learn about food and culture,” says Tan. “The Japanese community isn’t that centralized.” Through the street fairs, however, New Yorkers can learn more about the Japanese community and feel as if there is a true JapanTown in NYC, even if it’s just for a day.
The Healthy Food and Green Festival is this Sunday, August 22 from 11:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. on Madison Avenue between 43rd and 45th Streets in Midtown. For more…

…TOKYO (Reuters) Japan’s trade ministry has ordered Apple Inc’s Japan unit to state on its website that users who are concerned about their iPod nano portable music player catching fire can receive a replacement battery.

The ministry ordered Apple to publish an “easy to understand” statement online explaining how users of the devices — responsible for four cases of minor burns in Japan — can receive replacement batteries and obtain advice, a spokesman for the ministry said on Friday.

The Japan arm of Apple, the world’s biggest technology company by market value, came under scrutiny last week when it was ordered to explain 27 incidents of overheating in some models of its first-generation iPod nano portable music players.

Apple said last week that the issue had been traced to a single battery supplier.

The company said on Friday that safety is the highest priority.
